Yearly Archives: 2018

Well, it’s that time of the year already! I know I haven’t really spoken about this (nor posted a story in about a month), but I wanted to go ahead and type out something for today. First and foremost, I am in fact participating in this year’s NaNoWriMo, but it was sort of a hard decision to come to. This year, it seems, I’ve been suddenly blessed with work, so I am extremely busy! That is why I suddenly disappeared from my blog (insert sad face). But that’s a good thing! Nevertheless, I had to sit down and actually think about it. Specifically, I had to really build an argument to participate because I feel that there is no way that I could write considering everything I have to do in a day, and where I invest my free time (I’m looking at you, Sabrina… That show is so fun). Yet […]

NaNoWriMo 2018

He imagined her standing by the water cooler in the middle of the night, sipping water from a mug for the third time that night. It was as if she were still there and would return to bed soon. But she didn’t. The memory faded into the shadows of his apartment, leaving him in bed alone again, craving her touch. Turning around, to face the wall, away from the kitchen in his studio apartment, he felt the wind from his fan hit his neck. It was cold. His bed had not been cold when she had been there. It was usually to hot he’d throw the covers to her side. He didn’t even mind that she took over two thirds of the bed. He just loved feeling her arm wrapped around his, her quiet breath on his neck. It was cold. So cold. No amount of covers could fix that. […]

Long Distance

Sheryl watched TV and read the news on her phone. Lately, everything seemed to be in silence. She scrolled and scrolled, yet all she saw was news about new electronics, a huge scandal about some actor sleeping with a robot, and some bullshit the president said. Ominous, she thought as she locked her phone and set it aside. Why had the news suddenly dropped all the coverage from the violence lately? Just last week some poor couple had almost been killed at a parking lot, and it had been all over the news. No one ever found who did it. Seemed like whoever did it had made sure that their memories had been damaged enough that there was no visual record. When Kevin had heard, he’d raged, and wanted to join a violent activist group called “The Roses.” Sheryl had convinced him not to, but he complained every day, saying […]

The Cost of Happiness – Anxiety

She took a deep breath, remembering the hours of meditation she’d accumulated over the years. Everything was going to be okay. She’d done this many times. But what if mess up. I always mess up. No, that’s an intrusive thought. Her eyes closed, she pressed the palms of her hands together, as if praying, and whispered, “I am the master of my thoughts.” She smiled, regaining control of her thoughts. She stood at the top of a building, looking down at around 60 feet or so. From there, she looked through a pair of binoculars, looking around the area. This was her nightly routine ever since she discovered her powers. She was 16 when they manifested, and to this day she had no idea if the age was of any importance. On that day, she sat in the cafeteria when the self-proclaimed hottest guy of the school came up to […]

A Super Hero Thing – Pathos

William opened his eyes to an unfamiliar red hue. His entire body sore, he looked around momentarily in complete confusion. What? Where am I? A few feet from him, there was a building’s wall, a trashcan, and a bunch of bags. He lay against a wet brick wall covered. In fact, he sat in a pool of water on the cement. It had rained recently. An alley? God, he couldn’t remember what had happened. Had he had too much to drink? No, he had stopped that ever since he’d almost gotten fired from the force. And what the hell was the red hue to everything? His eyes burned, and he tried to rub his eyes with his hands, but the moment he tried, metal hit glass. What the hell? It took a moment to register, but when it did, his heart rate shot up, a beeping noise rang on his […]

The Curse

“Kevin, don’t do that,” Sheryl nagged. That was the third time she insisted, but he couldn’t keep his curiosity in check, so he knelt on the couch, staring out the living room window. “I’m sorry, it’s just that everything’s been freaky lately. The news keeps reporting about human and robot violence, and they keep telling people to stay safe at home.” Kevin turned to Sheryl, who was watching those news reports. “That’s why I keep telling you not to look out the window. You’re going to bring us attention. It’s better if we just watch a movie and relax. This will die down soon. It always does.” Kevin bit his lower lip. “How can you be sure they won’t come? It’s not like we’re a secret. You know people frown upon robots dating humans. Even our families don’t really approve of us.” Sheryl rolled her eyes and dragged him into […]

The News Reports

It’s been a while since I wrote anything regarding my process in writing these things, so I thought, “hey why not?” I think that for the past week, I’ve been on a weird sci-fi mood, especially concerning robots and the such. With this story, I now have three similarly themes ones, with Injustice and The Cost of Happiness. I’ll admit that I’m kinda happy with them, mostly because those specific stories have received quite the positive feedback (especially Injustice, which makes me super darn happy). This is kinda why I feel like I should seriously talk about these stories. A while back I mentioned (I don’t remember what post it was) that I liked science fiction because it allowed me to be political without being “in your face,” and I’ve decided to really explore the metaphors through these stories. The first one, The cost of Happiness is my “race” one, […]

on Revolution

She held her breath, the cold metal of the locker against her back, but the cut on her side made it hard. Her heart raced, and her vision blurred. That thing, whatever it was, hunted them. It had already killed all of her friends. The room filled with an awful smell, something like rotten eggs, and the thing slowly made its way into the room. A thick smoke, rolling almost like water on the floor. God, the scent it gave twisted her insides, giving her an intense desire to scream. That’s how it had gotten some of the others. They hadn’t been able to hold it. She covered her mouth and bit one of her fingers, drawing blood. Her eyes teared, and her entire body shook. The thing looked like it floated, the smoke like a black veil dragged on the floor. She couldn’t see anything of its body, only […]

Don’t Scream
